Beyond Books: Loanable Laptops available at the Bay

Do you know that you can check out more than books at the Bay Library? We also have laptops available for you to borrow.

We have 50 laptops which you can take out of the library for up to two weeks. These laptops are available for you to borrow at any time from the library desk.

We also have 30 laptops that can be accessed from our self-service machine and these can be used within the library, for as long as the battery lasts.

These laptops are available for you to borrow between 8am and 8pm. The self-service machine will display how many laptops are currently available.

Once you have finished using the laptop you can simply return it to the self-service machine, which will indicate the correct door to return it to.

Don’t forget to bring your student card with you, as you’ll need it to borrow laptops from the library.

New database trials – tell us what you think

This is a reminder of the three database trials which we have running at the moment:-

• Marketline Advantage (until 26^th February, which is this Friday!)
• WARC (World Advertising Research Centre) (until 6^th March)
• IBIS World (until 14^th March)

All three trials are available on campus only. You can find out more about each database and how to access it by clicking on the title above. Please take some time to explore these resources – you may find some useful material for your assignments!

If you’d like to offer your thoughts on these databases, please complete our short online survey. As a thank you, we have USB memory sticks to give away to 10 students via a raffle on the 6th March. Just include your student number on the survey to be entered int he draw. Your opinions count and will help us to make a decision on whether or not we will take up a subscription. Trial access to Marketline Advantage this week only

Swansea University has trial access to Marketline Advantage for four days only from Tuesday 23rd to Friday 26th February.

You may recognise Marketline as an important publisher of business information. Marketline Advantage offers access to:-

• global industry profiles
• company profiles
• country reports
• case studies
• news
• financial deals

from the UK and major marketplaces around the world.

You can access Marketline Advantage by going to http://advantage.marketline.com/ from a campus PC (the trial is not available off campus).

Please take some time to explore Marketline Advantage, but be quick as the trial ends on Friday! We’d love to hear your feedback at buslib@swansea.ac.uk.

Learn how to use EndNote in small, bitesize chunks

5 days of EndNote is an open online course for Swansea University students.

EndNote is a reference management tool. This means you can use it to store and organise your references. But perhaps most usefully you can use EndNote within Word to insert citations and a reference list using the APA referencing style.

Trial access to IBIS World’s industry reports

Swansea University currently has trial access to IBIS World 15th Feb to 14th March 2016.

IBIS World reports are an excellent resource for School of Management students – each industry report includes the following information:

• Supply chain
• Major companies in an industry sector
• Current performance and external drivers
• Industry outlook and life-cycle
• Products and markets
• The competitive landscape, barriers to entry, cost structure benchmarks
• Operating conditions
• Key industry data

Geographical coverage includes UK, China, USA, Australia and Canada, plus some global reports.

Trial access to WARC

We currently have trial access to WARC. WARC is the database of the World Advertising Research Centre. It contains information about marketing and advertising, including branding, advertising campaigns, consumer research, and marketing strategy.

You will be able to find case studies, articles, research papers, news, and data in WRAC.

You can access WARC by going to www.warc.com when you are on campus (the trial is not available off campus). The trial will run until 6th March.
